How to read a Danfoss VLT type code
What each part of a VLT type code such as FC-302P7K5T5E20H1XGXXXXSXXXXAXBXC4RXXDX means – series, power, voltage, enclosure, RFI filter, brake and options.
Every Danfoss VLT drive has a type code on its nameplate. It describes the drive completely: series, power, mains voltage, enclosure and every option. If you need the same drive again, the type code is the most useful thing you can send us – with it we can find the exact part number.
The example below is a real FC 302 drive, part number 132L3005:
FC-302P7K5T5E20H1XGXXXXSXXXXAXBXC4RXXDX
The first part: series, power and mains
| Part | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Product group | FC- | VLT frequency converter |
| Series | 302 | VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 (102 = HVAC Drive, 103 = Refrigeration Drive, 202 = AQUA Drive, 301 = AutomationDrive standard) |
| Power | P7K5 | 7.5 kW. “K” is the decimal point: PK37 = 0.37 kW, P1K5 = 1.5 kW, P15K = 15 kW, P110 = 110 kW |
| Phase | T | Three-phase supply (S = single-phase) |
| Mains voltage | 5 | 380–500 V AC |
The voltage digit is one of these:
| Code | Mains voltage |
|---|---|
| 2 | 200–240 V |
| 4 | 380–480 V |
| 5 | 380–500 V |
| 6 | 525–600 V |
| 7 | 525–690 V |
Enclosure
The next three characters are the enclosure. The digits are the IP rating.
| Code | Enclosure |
|---|---|
| E20 | IP20 / chassis, for mounting inside a cabinet |
| E21 | IP21 / Type 1 |
| E54 | IP54 / Type 12 |
| E55 | IP55 / Type 12 |
| E66 | IP66 / Type 4X |
| E00 | IP00 / chassis (large frames) |
A “P” instead of “E” (for example P55) means the same enclosure delivered with a backplate.
RFI filter, brake and control panel
| Part | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| RFI filter | H1 | Built-in EMC filter class A1/B (C1). H2 = class A2 (C3), H4 = class A1 (C2), HX = no filter |
| Brake / safe stop | X | X = no brake chopper, B = brake chopper, T = Safe Torque Off, U = brake chopper + Safe Torque Off |
| Control panel | G | G = graphical panel (LCP 102), N = numerical panel, X = no panel |
| PCB coating | X | X = standard, C = coated boards for harsh environments |
| Mains option | X | X = none, 1 = mains disconnect, 7 = fuses, 3 = disconnect + fuses, D = load sharing |
The RFI filter and the enclosure matter when you order: a drive without a filter may not meet the EMC rules where it is installed, and a lower IP rating may not survive the environment.
Software and option slots
The end of the code lists software and the option cards:
| Part | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Software | SXXX | Standard software, latest release |
| A option | AX | Fieldbus slot: AX = none, others = PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP … |
| B option | BX | I/O or encoder card: BX = none |
| C0 option | C4 | Motion controller: C4 = MCO 305 (SyncPos) |
| C1 option | R | R = MCB 113 extended relay card |
| D option | DX | 24 V backup supply: DX = none |
“X” always means “not fitted”. Two drives that differ only in the option letters have the same power section – but they are different part numbers, so send the full code.
Where to find the type code
The type code is printed on the nameplate on the side of the drive, under “T/C”. The part number (for example 132L3005) is on the same label. If the label is damaged, the drive shows the type code in its menu: parameter 15-45 Actual Typecode String.
Tip: paste a type code into the type code decoder to see every position explained, or into the search box at the top of this site. If we list the drive, you get its product page with all technical data.
